HWPL and MERI College Successfully Launch ‘Economics of Peace’ Online Curriculum

– Opening a New Horizon for Global Peace Education –

The HWPL Global 5 Branch and Meri College in India have collaborated to successfully launch the ‘Economics of Peace’ online curriculum. To commemorate the launch, a signing ceremony for their mutual cooperation agreement took place during the 10th Anniversary of the September 18th HWPL World Peace Summit held in India on September 28, 2024. Glowing feedback was given by many educators who participated in the event.

HWPL’s Headquarters, the HWPL Global 1 and Global 5 branches, and Meri College faculty collaborated to develop the curriculum. The course argues that investment in human capital, equitable resource distribution, and sustainable practices are essential components of a robust peace strategy. Furthermore, it seeks to illuminate the intricate relationship between economic systems and the pursuit of lasting peace, exploring how prosperity and stability can coexist.

This collaboration is significant, making it the first time that HWPL has launched peace education in an online format. This makes peace education easily accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world, and is free of charge. It will greatly contribute to the realization of the goal of spreading the culture of peace and ‘nurturing peace citizens.

The curriculum consists of a total of three modules. Modules 1 and 2 deal with the importance of peace from an economic perspective, and Module 3 includes peace education content based on HWPL’s Mindanao case and peace textbooks. The students will be able to learn the core elements of peace education through Mindanao, a representative case of conflict cessation by HWPL, along with a deep understanding of peace from an economic perspective.

The official course began on October 5, 2024, and about 240 students are currently taking this course at Meri College. In the future, many other university students and citizens around the world will be able to take this course. The launch of online peace education at Meri College highlights the potential for peace education to be implemented in schools all over the world.
