HWPL Frankfurt Branch Street Clean-Up Activities: Efforts for Environment and Peace

As 2024 drew to a close, the HWPL Frankfurt Branch reflected on a remarkable year filled with impactful volunteer projects, while eagerly anticipating an even brighter future. Our commitment to environmental preservation and community betterment has brought together volunteers, organizations, and residents to create meaningful change in Frankfurt and beyond.

Last year, the HWPL Frankfurt Branch organized 33 clean-up events, culminating in a finale on December 14th to commemorate the International Day of Volunteering. With 32 volunteers participating in the final clean-up, we collected 125 kilograms of waste throughout the year from streets and public spaces, reinforcing our vision of a cleaner, greener Frankfurt.

Through one of the programs called “Kippen-Catch” hosted on October 26th, we collected cigarette litter in the bustling Bahnhofsviertel. Over 20 volunteers gathered to collect 500 cigarette butts in just an hour, underscoring the environmental impact of these seemingly minor pollutants. By highlighting the harmful substances in cigarette waste, we aimed to raise awareness of the need for individual responsibility in protecting our environment. The collected cigarette butts were used to create flower pots and were posted on social media, presenting a creative way to raise awareness about the importance of environmental protection.

The HWPL Frankfurt Branch is already gearing up for an ambitious 2025. Starting on January 11th, it will continue hosting clean-up events, inviting new and returning volunteers to join our cause. Expanding beyond litter collection, we aim to tackle broader environmental and social issues through innovative initiatives.
