Introducing IPYG Affiliate Organization – Rwanda Youth Organization Forum (RYOF)
The Rwanda Youth Organization Forum (RYOF), established in 2018, is a non-governmental organization that unites 34 civil society organizations (CSOs) and local groups across Rwanda. RYOF’s primary mission is to foster youth development by creating and implementing solutions to address youth-related issues. The organization upholds key values, including human rights protection, peacebuilding and reconciliation, tackling youth unemployment, promoting economic self-reliance, and achieving gender equality, all with the goal of empowering young people.
In March of this year, RYOF formed a partnership with IPYG. Mutangana Kabera, Secretary General of RYOF, emphasized the critical role of youth solidarity and commitment in building a peaceful world, stating, “Our organization and IPYG share a common goal of achieving peace centered on youth. We were profoundly inspired by IPYG’s initiatives, which unite young people from diverse backgrounds to advocate for peace. We aspired to be part of this expansive network.”
In May, IPYG and RYOF co-hosted the “HWPL’s 11th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace and Peace Walk.” Under the theme “Rwanda Youth Peace Walk Against Genocide,” the event encouraged youth participation in peace advocacy while reflecting on the memory of the Rwandan Genocide against Tutsis and aiming to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Mutangana Kabera also addressed global youth during the event, referencing Rwanda’s history to call for international solidarity. He said:
“Earth is our shared home. We must respect it and work together to create a peaceful world for all. Young people have the power to build a legacy of sustainable peace for future generations. Rwanda is using the lessons from the 1994 genocide to establish a peaceful community where youth play a pivotal role. My message to the youth around the world is simple: let us join hands and work together to create a better world for today and future generations. Let us learn from Rwanda’s painful history.”
