Main Initiatives
HWPL Peace Education
In 2016, HWPL signed MOUs with 70 schools, including the Cotabato State University (formerly Cotabato City State Polytechnic College) located in Mindanao, for the implementation of peace education. In 2018, HWPL signed an MOA with the Philippines Commission on Higher Education. This led to the release of the CHED Memorandum Order No. 1 series of 2019, an order mandating all higher educational institutions to integrate peace education in their respective curricula. They are making efforts to introduce a peace education curriculum at national and public universities and expand peace activities in state and local universities in the Philippines. In this way, they are looking forward to a synergy effect at both national and societal levels in raising awareness of peace.
Through nine MOAs from 2019 to July 2024, HWPL’s Philippine branch established partnerships with 59 universities, 74 secondary schools, 5 integrated schools, 151 High schools, and 1,434 elementary schools. In addition, the branch hosted 19 training programs, trained 2,921 peace educators, and provided peace education to more than 390,301 students through 482 schools implementing HWPL peace education in their curriculum.
