Promoting Peace and Development through Education in Kawit District

–  Empowering Educators: A New Era of Peace Education –

The Municipal Gender and Development Peace Education Orientation Research Training was held at Club Balai Isabel in Batangas Province in the Philippines on November 15-16, 2024. The event was hosted in collaboration with the Department of Education Schools Division Office of the Cavite-Kawit District. The gathering brought together 700 dedicated teachers, 11 school principals, and key stakeholders from local government units focused on integrating peace and gender education into schools.

The event was inspired by the Schools Division Office of Cavite’s participation in the HWPL World Peace Summit in Korea on September 18. Dr. Rolando B. Talon Jr., the public schools district supervisor and focal person for the Cavite-Kawit District, was deeply moved by HWPL’s global peace movement and the commitment of its members toward working to bring peace to the country. As a result, during the event, HWPL signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Schools Division Office of the Cavite-Kawit District.

The event aimed to emphasize the importance of the partnership between HWPL and the Schools Division Office of Cavite. It introduced peace-focused initiatives, such as HWPL peace clubs, and set the foundation for fostering a culture of empathy and mutual respect within educational environments.

A total of 700 teachers prepared a heartfelt performance featuring interpretive dance and sign language and the peace-themed song, “We Are Unity.”

Before the event concluded, Mrs. Irene Rivera Geroy, principal of Aguinaldo Elementary School, presented the Peace Education Project Action Plan for the entire district in order to foster a culture of peace, empathy, and mutual respect among students, educators, and the community.
