Tanzanian Youth Unite Through YEPW for the Spread of Peace Culture

The International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) is actively seeking practical alternatives and initiatives to address youth issues worldwide through the Youth Engagement & Peacebuilding Working Group (YEPW), a platform for youth discussions.

In March, IPYG achieved significant milestones in Africa. Collaborating with the Tanzania Youth United Nations Association Club at Dar es Salaam University, IPYG launched the “Peace Advanced Country Tanzania” event, marking its first peace initiative in Tanzania.

Following this, IPYG introduced YEPW to various youth organizations in Tanzania, urging their participation in peace activities. As a result, five organizations committed to YEPW activities.

Furthermore, on May 25th, IPYG held the “Peace Advanced Country Tanzania_YEPW Launching Ceremony” at Dar es Salaam University. The event declared the establishment of YEPW in Tanzania, gathering youth organizations and students to pledge to promote a culture of peace, aiming to spread the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) Article 10: Spreading a culture of peace across Africa and the globe.

Participants at the ceremony expressed Tanzania’s commitment to lead peace efforts in Africa and worldwide as a Peace Advanced Country. They symbolically united with YEPW in Tanzania by creating handprint flags and initiating “plogging” activities, which combine jogging with picking up litter, marking the beginning of peace activities.

YEPW in Tanzania plans to hold regular meetings for event discussions and YEPW activities monthly. Each event will feature lectures on environmental conservation, the importance of peace, human rights, leadership, and youth sovereignty, and engage in plogging activities to foster a healthy peace culture within civil society.
