Yorosso City and HWPL Hold Conference to Resolve Ethnic Conflicts
On October 14, HWPL hosted the 4th Dialogue for Peace and Social Cohesion in Yorosso City in Yorosso, Mali, to address prominent ethnic and generational conflicts in the region. The event brought together over 80 participants, including the mayor, the deputy mayor, the secretary general of the city hall, ethnic leaders, civil society organizations, youth and women’s groups, and media representatives.
Since the MOU signing between HWPL and Yorosso City, the Citizen Participation Dialogue series launched in January of this year has been conducted four times with experts from various fields. These dialogues have concluded that the root causes of ethnic and generational conflicts in Yorosso stem from a lack of understanding of cultural roots and traditions.
The fourth dialogue focused on promoting and educating citizens about their ethnic roots and traditions as a means of fostering peace and harmony among ethnic groups and generations. Practical measures for implementing these initiatives were also discussed.
“As society undergoes modernization, our ethnic roots and traditions are gradually disappearing, and there is a lack of clear education on this,” said Abdoulaye Goïta, mayor of Yorosso City. “I will work to raise citizens’ awareness of the importance of traditions and customs for peacebuilding in Yorosso.”
“For our project to be successfully accomplished, the active support of HWPL is utmost necessary,” Mayor Goïta added.
